Results from an MSI Global Alliance Survey show that checking work emails outside of business hours is viewed positively by 70 percent of Australian and New Zealand workers.

The survey, circulated to over 1,000 employees and employers in Australia and New Zealand, reveals the increasing influence of handheld devices such as PDAs during and after work.

"This year's MSI survey turns on its head the idea that having a handheld email device is seen as encroaching on work–life balance. It seems that the growing use of handheld devices is an outstanding positive from an employee perspective," remarked Alliance spokesperson Charles Hornor.

Other results in the survey included that:
* 88 percent of respondents stated they feel compelled to check emails outside of work hours.
* 76 percent work on weekends at least occasionally and 69 percent work at least occasionally at home on weeknights
*  57 percent of participants spend their lunch breaks 'eating at their desk while doing work', three or more times a week.
