Most big businesses and individuals have made the switch to green, but according to news.com.au SMEs are lagging behind.

The annual Newspoll Pilot BeGreen Office Audit revealed 70 percent of small businesses leave their air conditioners on overnight and 10 percent keep their lights on 24 hours. Also, 36 percent of employees don’t switch their computers off before leaving and 86 percent print documents to proof, rather than reading them on screen. Making this more alarming is that 20 percent of businesses don’t provide bins to recycle paper, and 50 percent don’t have bins for other recyclables.

Environmental experts are calling for the Government to setup a green campaign targeted at SMEs.
