Shoppers like to buy green

Australian consumers are spending more to become eco-shoppers, according to Pierce Cody, director of Macro Wholefoods.

And he should know, after growing his small organic food store in Sydney’s Bondi Junction into a chain of eight.

“Retailers need to stay attuned to customer feedback, and ‘conscious consumers,’ as I like to call them, are impressed by eco-friendly retailers,” says Cody. “Eco-shoppers tend to ‘interrogate’ product labels, marketing campaigns and staff, all with the planet’s wellbeing in mind. They are however willing to overlook higher prices if retailers offer genuine ‘green’ options.”
