Does the perfect employee exist? If so, finding them is no easy feat—especially now that job seeker priorities have changed.

Almost 60 percent of job seekers look online for current positions, compared to the 17 percent who use the traditional newspaper, according to a final5 survey. The recruitment company also found that job seekers no longer look fondly on a “greed is good” motto.

What’s more, employers who dismiss applicants based on previous job-hopping may find that they’re the ones miss out, says Jason Snell, final5 general manager. “Employers should not be quick to judge the reasons for leaving without investigation. If you are a good employer there is a great [chance] that yours is the job at which they will stay.”

To assist you with competitive recruitment, final5 offers the following tips:

1. Ensure you sell all the benefits of the job and your business to your candidate

2. Look at candidates who fulfil 70 to 80 percent of your requirements and train the rest—this gives the candidate a challenge in their new role and they’re likely to stay in the role longer

3. Be quick, don’t sit on applications for more than a couple of days and expect them to be available

4. Consider using a recruitment specialist in your industry who knows how to get creative with advertising to give you cut through in a cluttered environment

5. Offer a competitive salary. Money is not the only motivator in applying for a job but a generous salary will help in attracting the perfect candidate
