More than a third of employees are hounded by their employers outside of work hours, found a recent LinkMe survey.
If you’re one of these employers, you might want to stop, because 50 percent of employees being contacted by phone, email or SMS say the only reason they haven’t mentioned anything is because they fear for their jobs—it’s not because they don’t have a problem with it.
“There is no doubt that advancing technologies and greater connectivity mean that the modern employee is far more contactable than ever before,” says Campbell Sallabank, CEO of LinkMe. “While these technologies can be a very positive thing and provide for an increase in the flexibility of working conditions, they are also open to abuse from fellow workers and particularly from those in authority.”
More than half of employees agree that new technology is blurring the lines between work and play, and 23.2 percent of employees even check their email while on holiday. “Only 15.9 percent of respondents are able to make the statement: ‘My time is my time, when I’m out of work no one can reach me’, a definition that many employees would prefer to live by,” says Sallabank.
