Recommendations to review red tape, in the NSW metal industry, have been endorsed by the State Government. The industry consists of 23,000 businesses, most of which are SMEs.
The Government review, by the Small Business Regulation Review Taskforce, was the third in an ongoing series of industry reviews, and also stated a need to review occupational health and safety training, injury management, and return to work processes. Workers compensation certificates have already been extended from four months to 12 months.
The taskforce is currently reviewing the rental, hiring and real estate services sector, and preparing another report on the business and professional services sector.
