The Humpty Dumpty Foundation, which raises funds for children’s services in hospitals across New South Wales, is looking for corporate teams to enter the Westpac Balmoral Burn.
Balmoral’s steep Awaba Street is the setting for the Burn, and this year Humpty Dumpty is looking to break its involvement record by attracting 100 corporate teams, 25 more teams than last year, to raise $2 million.
Wallabies great Phil Kearns, creator of the Burn, is calling on corporates to enter a four-person relay team. “Business people should get involved in this race for a host of reasons. But mostly, you work in a highly competitive market, be competitive on the street. Get a team together, train and enter the Burn. Get off your backsides and get revved up to beat the pants off of your competitors. “Seriously, it’s a great team building exercise, it’s a great way for corporate Australia to support a charity doing fantastic work, and it’s a fun thing to do on a Sunday.” Kearns enters the race each year.
The Balmoral Burn is Humpty Dumpty’s main fundraising event, says Paul Francis, founder and executive chairman of the foundation. “While the whole community gets involved and the race is open to anyone who wants to run up the hill, it’s corporate involvement which helps us raise the most money to purchase medical equipment for children’s departments of hospitals,” he explains. “Senior executives commit to corporate teams in the race but additionally, individuals get involved on a personal level and also help the foundation, Last year we had an unprecedented 75 teams and raised $1.6 million. This year, we’re aiming for 100 teams to raise $2 million. We know we can make this happen.” Xstrata Coal, Dymocks, ANZ, Emirates, TNT Express, Walker Corporation and Brambles are among the 40 currently registered teams.
The Westpac Balmoral Burn is taking place on Sunday June 1. Cost of entry for a four person corporate team is $7,000 and comes with a variety of benefits. For more information, or to register, visit www.humpty.com.au
