Coles is urging shoppers to turn “plastic bags into plants”. For each plastic bag returned to Coles in the month of September, money will be donated to the Junior Landcare School Garden Grant program, a nationwide initiative funding school and community landcare projects. Student projects will include water conservation, biodiversity, waste reduction and school gardens.
The campaign will appeal to both young shoppers and parents, said Brian Scarsbrick, CEO of Landcare Australia. “In a study conducted by Junior Landcare this week, 96 percent of respondents were worried about climate change.”
