The United Nations Youth Association of Australia (UNYA) seeks applications from 15 to 24 year olds to represent Australia at the United Nations. The role involves several months’ travel around Australia to canvas youth issues and a stint in New York for up to eight weeks.

Applicants should have a strong knowledge of the United Nations and world affairs, and experience in youth issues.

“The Australian Government recognises the importance of young people being heard on important issues facing the world today,” says Minister for Youth Kate Ellis. “We have therefore committed $8 million over four years to establish the Australian Youth Forum, which will be a link between the Government and young people, including youth policy specialists and the youth sector.”

2008 representatives Elizabeth Shaw and Melanie Poole will travel to New York later this month to present their findings about Australian youth to the UN General Assembly.

UNYA and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will select the successful candidate.

Expressions of interest due: October 31, 2008
