Restrictions placed on trading hours during Australia Day are creating confusion. While New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria, the ACT and the Northern Territory are leaving the decision to trade up to businesses, South and Western Australia have prohibited most trading in their states.
Queensland’s decision is creating the most confusion. Trading is permitted in South East Queensland from 9am to 6pm; it is also permitted in touristic areas from 8.30 am to 5.30pm, but is prohibited in the rest of the state.
