Friday’s Anzac Day holiday should be a time of reflection, not commercial trade, but the Queensland Retail Traders and Shopkeepers Association predicts there’ll be some rogue traders on the day.
Major stores are banned from opening all day, while smaller businesses, such as cafes, are only allowed to trade after 1pm.
Association executive director Scott Driscoll says they support penalising retailers that break the restriction. "If anyone is out there basically opening and flouting the law and they're knowingly doing so, they should face prosecution," he said.
