Local business institutions believe expansion of Kingsford Smith airport will lead to an expansion of the city and its business opportunities.
"Sydney Airport is a major economic contributor and it is critical that it continues to grow and prosper," said Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce.
Handling a large percentage of the nation's tourism 'traffic', the Sydney airport is an important hub for the city and visitors who may be looking to invest.
The upgrades will include a centralised security screening, new passenger facilities and retail outlets, new outbound and early baggage handling system, and the expansion of the arrivals baggage system to cater for the extra passengers brought into Sydney by the introduction of the A380 into airline fleets.
