Training scheme to help jobless

By Jessica Stanic on Thursday, 2 July 2009

The Federal Government has announced a scheme to help unemployed Australians find work again, through a government-subsidised training program.

From today, all workers over 25 who are laid-off due to the global recession will be guaranteed a training place by the Government. In a measure totalling $300 million, as many as 124,000 people will be eligible for the new scheme.

Employment Participation Minister Mark Arbib said that workers who have been retrenched will get access to “a training place and a government vocational education and training qualification… with opportunities in areas such as aged care, health care and insulation.”
