Small business support line to cost taxpayers $10 million

The Rudd Government’s small business support line is set to cost taxpayers $10 million over two years and has almost no value to small business, claims Shadow Small Business Minister Steven Ciobo.

The support line announced in the May Budget is designed to help small businesses manage through the recession. However Ciobo believes that not only is it “of highly questionable value to small business” but is running two months behind schedule.

Ciobo has accused the Rudd Government of “window dressing” – all spin and no substance.

“Here is a support line purported to help small businesses, which will be staffed by bureaucrats and offer none of the tangible help which small businesses need day-to-day.”

Small Business Minister Craig Emerson has said in the past that the support line will act as a “launching pad for business owners seeking specialist advice.”
