Rudd announces Small Business Advisory Committee

By Jessica Stanic on Thursday, 11 June 2009

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has announced that the Federal Government will set up a Small Business Advisory Committee to provide a stronger voice for the sector in government.

The committee will be made up of an independent panel of experts, with the government calling for expressions of interest from potential members next month.

Speaking of the committee, Rudd said: “The panel will be a strong voice for small business in government.”

Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull expressed his doubts about the committee, claiming that while the committee might work, there is no substitute for direct contact with small business.

Small Business Minister Craig Emerson said the government were doing everything they could to support small business, including helping operators and employees upgrade their skills through training courses, along with providing online support for those small businesses who do not have a website.
