Government seminars help business protect e-security

The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy are set to hold a number of events coming days to increase awareness about e-security, with ways to help businesses increase their online security.

National E-security Awareness Week runs from the 5-12 June, with a number of events being held around the country to help businesses protect their business online through: installing and updating new computer security software, being cautious with providing personal information online and using wireless technologies to protect your bandwidth from thieves.

Five simple tips being promoted throughout the week will help Australians use the internet in a secure and confident manner. Tips include:

• Get a better, stronger password and change it at least twice a year.
• Get security software, and update and patch it regularly.
• Stop and think before you click on links or attachments from unknown sources.
• Information is valuable. Be careful about what you give away about yourself and others online.
• Log on to www.staysmartonline.gov.au for further information and to sign up for the email alert service.
