Good advice, Gavin. As a one-person business - Corporate Comedian, Hoax Speaker and Lateral Thinking Facilitator - I am using the web in numerous ways. Certainly, given that my market is national, Google Adwords completely replaced the Yellow Pages a long time ago.

I would just add a word of caution about email newsletters. All our Inboxes are bloated as it is, and, from talking to others, there's a lot of deleting going on.

For some people, an email newsletter can be replaced by a blog, allowing the marketer to publish relevant content when any given issue is at its most topical. If a business has tech savvy customers, then a blog supported by an RSS Feed or tweets on Twitter is a very immediate and effective way of delivering information to those who want it.
