The Whingeing Pom

Jen is editor of Dynamic Business magazine. She also likes to whinge. A lot. Her journalistic career in the UK spans almost a decade in newspapers and magazines and has been as diverse as interviewing celebrities to reporting on the 2005 London bombings. She is passionate about making the magazine the leading provider of practical, expert advice for SMEs in Australia. Jen’s blog will profile a day in the life of an editor and include many strong opinions and a lot of ranting.

Spreading the love between PR and journalism

By Jen Bishop on Thursday, 21 January 2010

Tonight is the second #prjournolove in Sydney; an event I spearheaded on Twitter to get PR people and journalists together for a friendly and informal drink. The idea is to discuss work and accept we’re all normal people and communications professionals who don’t have to hate each other. There’s also a distinct possibility that we’ll talk about non-work activities, maybe even get a bit tipsy and make the odd new friend.

We have more than 100 RSVPs, largely due to joining forces with #PRinks, an existing PR-only meet-up. What could be more in the spirit of PRJournoLove (which I like to call a movement in better PR and journalism relations!) than joining forces with the PR people?

You can follow the movement on Twitter with the #prjournolove hashtag. Get in touch if you’d like further information.

    Hi Jen :-)

In case your wondering…I just reckon you’re a good egg that is putting ‘the people’ back into journalism…Oops! My bad…I mean ‘Jenalism’ :-)

I like your intent and I hope it helps turn ‘busi-ness’ into ‘relaxed-ness’…otherwise stuff like ’sustainability’ will remain in the realm of fad and media hype.

I reckon good ol’ WIlliam Blake had something to offer journos, when he said:

“A truth told with bad intent beats the worst lie one can invent”

    Keep going Jen…and thanks :-)

    Cheers
